INSUAH Workshop in Tokyo

The INSUAH team started the second year of the research project with a two-week working meeting in Tokyo during Sakura – cherry blossom.

The partners from Brazil, Cuba, Indonesia, Germany and Japan explored the Tokyo Living Lab together, met the local actors and discussed and compared the strategies, initiatives and approaches to deal with Urban Agricultural Heritage in Japan as well as in their own countries. In addition to diverse UAH projects in urban areas, there was also the opportunity to visit the cultivation of wasabi in the high altitude farms in Shizuoka, listed by FAO as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System GIAHS.

After intense and insightful two weeks, the INSUAH team said their goodbyes to each other over a dinner cruise under cherry blossoms and – full of inspiration – returned home to the next year of working at the INSUAH Living Labs in Sao Paulo, Havana, Nuremberg/Bamberg, Bandung, and Tokyo. The team will use 2023 for the mapping process and to build the Living Labs, and of course meet digitally to work on the meta-level. And the coming year promises to be exciting as well: In addition to a workshop at the Bandung Living Lab in Indonesia and another meeting in Europe (information to follow), guest residencies of INSUAH junior researchers are planned at the partners’ institutes.
