Global Issues Convention

Hannover 19.11.2024 – 21.11.2024

The Global Issues Convention brings together the members of twenty projects within the funding program “Global Issues – Integrating Different Perspectives”, consisting of the three funding initiatives ‘Preventing Pandemics: the Role of Human-Environmental Interactions’, ‘Mobility – Global Medicine and Health Research’ and ‘Integrating Different Perspectives on Heritage and Change’.

The aim of the convention is to facilitate academic exchange, to foster networking across the projects, to enable exchange with the six participating European foundations and to discuss overarching topics such as interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and North-South-Collaborations. In addition to project presentations and keynotes speeches, various workshops will be held to reflect on learnings and to discuss open questions from the projects. The workshops will be led by researchers from the project teams.

The funding program “Global Issues – Integrating Different Perspectives” is a collaboration between the six European foundations Compagnia, La Caixa, Novo Nordisk, Rijksbanken, Wellcome, and Volkswagen Foundation. It intends to enable international research collaborations and to generate new insights in understudied issues of global relevance. The different thematic areas addressed by this overarching funding program align with the challenges that have been acknowledged by the United Nations’ sustainable development agenda as requiring specific action. “Global Issues” aims to stimulate and strengthen collaboration on eyesight between researchers based in different parts of the world who usually do not join forces.
