UA as H Case Profiles

Learning from cases all over the globe

At INSUAH, our mission is to safeguard and promote the heritage embedded in urban agriculture as a means of transforming urban settings towards more sustainable cities. We believe that the best way to achieve our goal and to gain insights is through a living-lab approach. In this following, all the case studies are selected based on ongoing research from our five living labs: São Paulo, Brazil; Havana, Cuba; Nuremberg and Bamberg, Germany; Bandung, Indonesia; and Tokyo, Japan. The selected cases are all urban agriculture cases, which originated in different backgrounds in history and evolved in tandem with urban development over time. These processes of development and adaptation have ultimately resulted in the establishment of unique local knowledge systems.
In our INSUAH Case Study Pofile Portfolio, these case studies will be introduced through four key aspects: their basic information, urban trajectory, sustainability perspectives, as well as tangible and intangible heritage values. We hope the potential showcased in the local knowledge systems of these cases can serve as a source of insight for sustainable urban development, fostering sustainable and culturally relevant approaches to urban agriculture management.

The UA_H Case Study Pofile Portfolio provides a deeper insight in the benefits of approaching Urban Agriculture as Heritage and by describing them using a set of questions and criteria, developed in INSUAH.
